Bruges is one of the most charming medieval cities in Belgium—and a true time capsule. Much of the city’s architecture dates from the 1100s through the 1500s, when Bruges thrived as a major hub of the European textile trade. When that industry declined in the 16th century, large-scale development slowed, leaving the city remarkably well preserved. Today, Bruges feels like a living museum of canals, guild houses, and Gothic brickwork, earning its place as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We love visiting Bruges for its cozy beer cafés, classic Flemish dishes, and the sheer beauty of wandering its historic streets at a relaxed pace.
Our Bruges City Guide is a bit more limited than our Amsterdam or Munich guides, simply because we haven’t spent as much time here—yet. Most of the places listed are spots we’ve personally visited and enjoyed, with a few additional recommendations shared by trusted locals and fellow travelers that are still on our own must-visit list.
